Hitting the right spot with insurance for massage therapists

Massage therapists’ insurance (also known as massage therapy insurance or, sometimes, sports massage insurance) is one simple policy that includes all of the insurance cover you need as a massage therapist. We know that, as a massage therapist, your clients trust you to provide an expert service and, as with any service provider, things don’t always go to plan. Make sure that you are covered for any eventuality with one easy-to-manage insurance policy that covers you and your business, no matter what.

What insurance do I need?

Public liability insurance is a must for most massage therapists as it protects you in the event that a third party is injured or property is damaged on your premises or as a result of your business, and they pursue legal action against you.

It is also important to think about professional indemnity insurance. This protects you if a lawsuit is brought against you or your business if you fail to deliver an adequate service or advice. For example, if you do sports massages and you make a mistake during the massage causing injury or strain to the client, they could sue you. Professional indemnity insurance would be able to help you with legal costs or compensation.

If you hire any employees, even freelancers or volunteers, UK law demands that you must have employer’s liability insurance to protect them in the event that they are injured at work.

Some other types of insurance you could include in your massage therapy insurance are:

  • Equipment insurance: if your massage table or other equipment is vital to your work, protect it against damage or theft
  • Buildings insurance: whether you work from home, at an office or a clinic, you can protect your work premises against fire, flood and vandalism
  • Stock insurance: if you sell products (eg: massage oils or treatment creams) as a part of your business, protect any stock you keep for its cost value so you don’t lose anything to damage or theft
  • Personal accident insurance: if you were to become seriously injured and were unable to carry on working, personal accident insurance would help to cover any loss of income, medical bills or hospitalisation

As the director of a start-up marketing agency, I’m too busy to spend a lot of time researching all of the insurance policies we need, let alone finding time to search for the best cover. When I spoke with Gareth, he was incredibly helpful. He explained to me exactly what I need and then found the best policies for the business, its directors and employees. Now I know that the business and its assets are protected, whatever happens. I would highly recommend Gareth, Darren and the rest of his team.
